For the score of Journey, were you involved from the early concept stages or did you start composing after the initial build was playable?
I was hired before Sony technically green lit the game, and it didn't yet exist in any form. As a result, I was able to be closely involved with it through every stage of prototyping, pre-production and on through to the very end.
The piece featured in the trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boPHncFbm... is what I wrote on the first day, in 2009. That piece was inspired purely by the ideas that Jenova explained to me in our first meeting, and formed the basis of all the music thereafter.
And through the actual process, I had a test kit that would me play builds of the game so that I could test my ideas any time I wanted. It was an awesome way to work!
What (if any) was the final problem with releasing a soundtrack for flOw? I had to accquire one via 'other' means, but I would be very willing to pay for one, should it ever be released.
How do You manage to make music from such small things, pieces?Austin Wintory responded on 03/04/2012
