Q

Would you ever consider creating music for other games?

Austin Wintory responded on 03/14/2012
A

Most definitely! I've done a bunch of smaller games you've never heard of, and I'm also currently working on a fantastic game called Monaco, due out later this year. There are a few other projects coming up too, that I can't say anything about yet. :)

Q

Where can I download your music? I LOVE IT!

Austin Wintory responded on 03/14/2012
A

Thank you so much!! I have a handful of albums for sale on iTunes and Amazon (just search my name). You might especially like Captain Abu Raed (which is also a really special film, well worth renting! It won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival).

You can also stream a lot of my music by checking it out here:

Q

Can you provide us with an ongoing list of your music which has been heard in films and TV, and let us know of upcoming opportunities to hear your music in films and TV?

Austin Wintory responded on 03/10/2012
A

Of course! My website contains all of that information: http://austinwintory.com/

Clicking "Credits / Works" reveals my film, game and concert works. Gradually I'm making sub-pages for them that have specific clips and details (currently only a few of the films do, such as CAPTAIN ABU RAED).

Q

What equipment and/or software do you use while composing?

Austin Wintory responded on 03/10/2012
A

I always start with the pencil and paper. Then, for sequencing and eventually for producing a finished product, I work in Digital Performer. Pretty simple setup actually!

Q

Hi. Do you know when the soundtrack to Journey will be avilable. It was absolutely amazing.

No details yet but I promise will announce soon! Thank you so much for saying that ... it means the world to me

Q

Hi. Is there any chance that you will release an arranged album for Journey and Flow?

Austin Wintory responded on 03/10/2012
A

Working on the soundtrack for Journey! Release date still not announced. I promise you'll know the moment I can say!

Q

What was your greatest moment during the process of composing and recoridng the soundtrack for Journey?

Austin Wintory responded on 03/10/2012
A

The theme that you hear in the original trailer was something I had written at the very beginning of the process, in late winter 2009. We recorded the orchestra for Journey around Thanksgiving 2011, solidly 2.5 years later. Hearing that theme recorded at long last, by the Macedonia Radio Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Oleg Kontradenko), was like reuniting with an old friend. It was really really special.

Q

What inspired you to create the sweeping movements in Journey?

Austin Wintory responded on 03/10/2012
A

Journey itself!!! I always worked very closely with the game and with thatgamecompany. The brilliance that comes from them is awe inspiring and anything you like about the music you can thank them for :)

Q

Dear Austin, I just finished the game, Journey, and I have to say everything about it is simply perfect. The music is amazing. I would really like to find it :)

Keep an eye on my Facebook page and twitter (@Awintory) and I promise to announce the soundtrack details the moment I'm allowed to!

And THANK YOU so much for playing it and taking the time to write this. We worked very, very hard but still ... you can never guarantee you're going to touch people. A message like this warms my heart deeply.

Q

Do you plan to release a soundtrack for flow?
