Well, thank you! It really touches me that you would say that ... cheers!

Q

How did you choose the feeling for the music in Journey?

Austin Wintory responded on 02/22/2012
A

You can see my answer to the inspirations behind Journey's music in one of the other questions below, but I can elaborate a little by saying that I rarely ever choose the feeling. Instead, I write music to match or enhance the feelings already created by thatgamecompany. We work very closely together so that we're always in sync, and supporting each other's ideas.

Q

Are you going to release the journey main song out for purchase ?

Austin Wintory responded on 02/21/2012
A

There will be a full Journey soundtrack available, which includes the main theme that you hear in both trailers. The release date of the soundtrack will be announced soon ...

Meanwhile, before the album's release, I'll be sending out a special bundle of music that WON'T ever get commercially released, free to everyone who's signed up for this newsletter...

Q

No questions.
Just love your compositions.
I wish all the best for you, Andy Schatz and everyone form thatgamecompany

Q

What was your inspiration for the music of Journey.

Austin Wintory responded on 02/21/2012
A

My inspiration was Journey itself! The music was written with a lot of detail for the game, moment by moment. Nothing was composed in a vacuum, where we then tried to find a place for it. So the game itself informed all of my decisions.

I would also say thatgamecompany was my inspiration. They are a remarkable team and, as always, Jenova Chen is amazing to work with. He has such creative ideas and unique perspectives while we're working.

And finally, the musicians for whom I was writing were my inspiration. The interaction with performers is probably my favorite part of being a composer, and in this case I was blessed to have a truly stellar lineup. Tina Guo was the extraordinary cello soloist who you can hear in both trailers. I'll discuss the other soloists soon on my blog.
